March 2009 New Mexico Genealogist Special Issue
The March 2009 issue of the New Mexico Genealogist was mailed out yesterday. If you are a member of the New Mexico Genealogical Society, you should be receiving your issue soon.
It is the "Special Founding Families of Alburquerque Issue". Two years ago, NMGS published the book Aqui Se Comienza: A Genealogical History of the Founding Families of La Villa de San Felipe de Alburquerque. (Link) This issue is our first attempt at collecting additional articles that compliment the book. We hope that others will be inspired by our efforts into sending us additional articles about the founding families.
You may become a member of the New Mexico Genealogical Society by filling out a membership form. (Link) After March 1st, the annual fee is $30.00. By becoming a member, you will receive four quarterly issues of the New Mexico Genealogist. Members may also receive free shipping on any of the books that we publish. Additionally, by becoming a member, you will help support our organization in continuing to publish books and articles on genealogy, as well as help us support the Albuquerque Special Collections Library.
The articles published in the March 2009 New Mexico Genealogist are as follows:
* "More Otero Descendants, Children of Quiteria Duran y Chavez" by Nancy Anderson and Francisco Sisneros

LDS Family History Centers
The LDS Church has a number of Family History Centers throughout the world. In some part of the country (and the state) the only genealogy library may be one of these centers.
There is a good article online titled "On the Ground at Your Local Family History Center". The article is from Ancestry Magazine. It explains what the Family History Centers are, where to find them, and how to use them.
Check on the article.

Local Genealogists Profiled in Albuquerque Journal
Did you check out today's Sunday Journal? A number of local genealogist talked about their favorite hobby in that newspaper. Check out the article "Genealogy buffs root around through public records to find from whence they came" by Eric Billingsley. You'll find the article under the title "Shaking the Family Tree" in the paper edition.
Former New Mexico Genealogical Society President Nancy Anderson, as well as current NMGS President Robert Baca and current Hispanic Genealogical Research Center of New Mexico President Ron Miera are quoted in the article.
